It might still be a long wait for the highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings series but at least we now know which period it will be set. Amazon has just confirmed that the show based on J.R.R. Tolkien's works will take place in The Second Age.
The official Lord of the Rings Twitter account run by Amazon has already been teasing about the series paying tribute to the Rings of Power. However, the latest tweet finally confirmed the period setting. Take a look at the tweet below.
"Welcome to the Second Age," the post read.
It's great to finally get a confirmation but it also leads to more questions. After all, the Second Age, or The Age of Númenor, spans thousands of years and has several stories. Interestingly, the island of Númenor appears on the map in the tweet. However, it is still unclear if the series will explore the lost city's rise and fall.
The Second Age has already been featured in the first Lord of the Rings film. In the opening sequence of The Fellowship of the Ring, the Battle of Dagorland told the story of how the One Ring came to be and how it was lost.
The update from Amazon also debunks an old theory. There have been speculations that the upcoming Lord of the Rings series will focus on a young Aragorn. However, it's now impossible considering that the Raider was born in the Third Age.
Amazon has not yet announced the Lord of the Rings series premiere date. Hopefully, we'll be getting new updates in the new future.
