Amazon Announces The Lord of the Rings Series Cast

After over a year since reports of the show got around, Amazon finally releases a cast list of the highly-anticipated The Lord of the Rings series.

The TV adaptation's confirmed cast members include Robert Aramayo, who plays young Ned on Game of Thrones. Along with Owain Arthur of The Palace, Nazanin Boniadi of Homeland, Tom Budge of The Pacific, Morfydd Clark of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Ismael Cruz Cordova of The Mandalorian, Ema Horvath of The Gallows Act II, Markella Kavenagh of Romper Stomper, Joseph Mawle of Game of Thrones, Charlie Vicker of Medici, Daniel Weyman of Gentleman Jack, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, and newcomer Tyroe Muhafidin.

This is not the complete list of the series cast, according to Amazon Co-head Vernon Sanders at TCA (via Deadline), they still have a "few key roles" to cast.

"After undertaking an extensive global search, we are delighted finally to reveal the first group of brilliant performers who will take part in Amazon's The Lord of the Rings series," showrunner J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay said. "These exceptionally talented women and men are more than just our actors: they are the newest members of an ever-expanding creative family that is now working tirelessly to bring Middle-earth to life anew for fans and audiences worldwide."

As previously announced, The Lord of the Rings series will not be remakes of Peter Jackson's movies, instead, they'll be preceding the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring. Joining Payne and McKay is filmmaker J.A. Bayona who will be directing the first two episodes. They have yet to announce which characters these actors will be playing, but Aramayo is expected to play the lead role as the young hero Beldor.

There's no official airing date for The Lord of the Rings series but Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke says they are aiming for a 2021 release.
