The newest K-pop girl group under SM Entertainment, aespa, immediately enjoyed the spotlight when they debuted in November 2020 with Black Mamba. They continue to shine brighter with their EP Savage and other singles.
Before their second anniversary, they announced that they would soon release a new album. But aside from new music, the group might also welcome a new member.

aespa Winter Accidentally Mentions Potential 5th Member
In a new radio interview, Winter was caught seemingly hinting at the group’s potential 5th member.
The now-viral clip, which has been shared on multiple platforms, shows the K-pop idol saying, “Now, with a new person's ae...”
A fan who shared it to an online community said that the 5th member might be someone named Ara, as rumors about her joining aespa emerged last year.

“There was talk that someone named Ara would be joining [aespa] since last year, but she made an Instagram after leaving SM. But earlier this year, she must have deleted it and gone back into SM,” the user said.
Meanwhile, other commenters said that Ara would complete the KWANG in KWANGYA. The letters K, W, N, and G are the initials of the girl group’s current members – Karina, Winter, NingNing, and Giselle. With that, Ara’s initial could complete the KWANG.
aespa and SM Entertainment have not commented on Winter’s statement yet. But more former trainees were actually expected to join the girl group in the past.
Former SM Trainees Who Could Have Debuted With aespa
Aside from Ara, other SM trainees caught people’s attention as they reportedly could have joined aespa if they did not leave.
The six trainees include NMIXX’s Sullyoon, Kep1er’s Chaehyun, Woo!ah!’s Wooyeon and Nana, and Koeun. All of which previously served as trainees under SM Entertainment. However, they decided to part ways with the agency and pursued their careers with different groups.
The news about aespa’s 5th member should be taken with a grain of salt – for now. But fans could spend their time waiting for their new album until someone confirms the news.
