Embarrassed About Her Divorce

The singer said she didn't feel comfortable talking about her split from her ex-husband, Simon Konecki, because it felt like she "disrespected" the idea of marriage when they divorced. She split with her husband in 2018.

Adele said that she was initially obsessed with keeping her family together. She talked about how her father left home when she was just two years old and of how growing up, she always promised herself to keep her family together when she finally had one. Adele said she really tried, but she eventually realized how unhappy she was.

She Still Loves Her Husband

Adele told Oprah that she still loves her husband, but she was no longer "in love" with him. She added that the two of them continue to be friends as they co-parent of their son, Angelo.

Talking About Her Weight Loss

Following her divorce, Adele received some criticism over her sudden weight loss. Adele said she adopted an exercise regime after her divorced, which helped her lose 100 pounds in two years. The Someone Like You singer said she partly stuck to exercising to help her with her anxiety attacks.

"I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage. That [exercising] really contributed towards me getting my mind right," Adele said.

Oprah related to Adele's weight loss, describing her own experience of how people felt "upset," and she first started to diet and exercise. Adele said she also heard similar comments, but she had later realized that it was not her job to "validate how people feel about their bodies."

Her Son Adores Taylor Swift

Adele later shared about her experiences with her son, who apparently thinks Taylor Swift is a bigger star than his mother. Adele said she had taken her son to Taylor Swift's Reputation concert in 2018. She said Angelo's jaw dropped when he saw just how many people had come to Swift's show.

Adele said she had only let her son come to her rehearsals, which were mostly empty of people. Adele said she recently made sure that her son would realize how popular his mother is by showing him just how many people had watched her latest YouTube music video premiere.

"The other day, he watched the Easy On Me video countdown... and he was like, 'There was 150,000 people waiting!' Then he read the comments, and he was like, 'People really like you!'," Adele recalled.
