Aaron Sorkin has made a big name behind the camera, working as a famous playwright, screenwriter, and producer.

He's behind some of the most successful movies, plays, and TV series, like The West Wing, Steve Jobs, and more. So, take a look at Sorkin's life, career, and net worth as he becomes an icon himself.

Aaron Sorkin's Career

The 61-year-old already has had a passion for writing since he was young. He's widely recognized for his trademark fast-paced dialogue and extended monologues, added with a storytelling technique called "the walk and talk."

His rise to prominence began when he wrote and created the TV series Sports Night in 1998, The West Wing in 1999, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip in 2006, and The Newsroom in 2012.

He's also behind the theatrical plays A Few Good Men and The Farnsworth Invention, the Broadway revivals of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and Lerner and Loewe's Camelot.

In addition, Sorkin wrote the film screenplays for A Few Good Men, The American President, and the biopics Charlie Wilson's War, Moneyball, and Steve Jobs.

He also tried his hands at directing, making his debut as a director in Molly's Game, followed by The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Being the Ricardos.

He won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his writing work for The Social Network. He also has a BAFTA Award, five Primetime Emmy Awards, and three Golden Globes.

With these to his name, Sorkin is now worth $90 million.

Aaron Sorkin Suffered a Stroke

Meanwhile, in an interview with The New York Times, Sorkin revealed he suffered a stroke in November 2022 before the opening of his new Camelot musical adaptation on Broadway.

At the time, the rehearsals were about to begin, making his blood pressure so high that he could have died.

A month after the medical emergency, he only mumbled his words, had trouble typing, and was prevented from flying for a few weeks. Later, he could no longer sign his name after fans asked for some autographs.

Thankfully, these issues are now behind him, though the stroke still has a lingering effect: he can't taste food.

"Mostly, it was a loud wake-up call," he said.

"I thought I was one of those people who could eat whatever he wanted, smoke as much as he wanted, and it's not going to affect me. Boy, was I wrong," he continued. "There was a minute when I was concerned that I was never going to be able to write again, and I was concerned in the short-term that I wasn't going to be able to continue writing Camelot."

Sorkin originally planned not to share his stroke with the public, but he realized it might help other people if he told his story.

"If it'll get one person to stop smoking, then it'll be helpful," he stated, adding he used to smoke two packs of cigarettes a day.
