Fans will quickly recognize Aaron Paul for his role as Jesse Pinkman in the hit AMC TV series Breaking Bad, but aside from this, he has several credits to his name. He has been in the business since the late 1990s, trying to set a footing in Hollywood until he made it big on the small screen.

Aaron Paul Started as a Model

The now-42-year-old tried to break into the industry by modeling. He was a runner-up in the 1996 International Modeling and Talent Association competition in Los Angeles and was signed with a manager.

He started appearing in music videos, like for the Korn song “Thoughtless.” He was also seen in Everlast’s “White Trash Beautiful.”

From there, he began doing TV commercials for different brands, like Juicy Fruit, Corn Pops and Vanilla Coke.

His movie career started in the 2000 film Whatever It Takes, followed by Help! I’m a Fish and K-PAX in 2001, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder in 2002, Bad Girls From Valley High in 2005, Choking Man and Mission: Impossible III in 2006 and The Last House on the Left in 2009.

He also had a number of guest-starring roles on The Guardian, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, ER, Sleeper Cell, Veronica Mars, The X-Files, Ghost Whisperer, Criminal Minds, Bones and 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Aaron Paul’s Breakthrough

Despite the many shows and movies that Aaron Paul did in the past, his breakthrough didn’t come until he made the TV series Big Love in 2007 and Breaking Bad in 2008.

His role as Scott Quittman on the HBO series helped him rise to prominence, being widely known in the public eye after appearing in 14 episodes.

Alternatively, Jesse Pinkman became his trademark role, bringing his career to a new height and launching him into stardom. He’s the show’s deuteragonist, opposite Bryan Cranston, appearing in all five seasons and receiving a $250,000 paycheck per episode in its final season.

His role earned him several nominations and awards, like the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. From there, Aaron Paul continued doing other projects. He starred in the 2012 movie Smashed, the 2016 Hulu series The Path, the 2018 AppleTV+ crime drama series Truth Be Told and the third season of Westworld in 2020.
