90 Day Fiancé Season 9 premiered on Apr. 17 with six new couples and one returning couple. In the first episode, Bilal prepares for Shaeeda's arrival, but he wants to know what her genuine intentions are. Already, it looks like Bilal thinks Shaeeda may be just after the money.
90 Day Fiancé Season 9: Is Shaeeda a gold digger?
Bilal, a wealthy real estate businessman from Kansas City, Missouri, enjoys a lavish lifestyle. He describes his manner of living as "hood bougie," and he attributes his prosperity to his Muslim faith.
“I am what you’d call ‘hood bougie,” Bilal says, referring to his lavish lifestyle.
Bilal and his ex-wife, Shahida, are still on good terms, and she is aware of how fussy Bilal is about his home. She is concerned, however, that Shaeeda will see dollar signs when she looks at Bilal. Still, he swears her that’s not the case during a conversation he and Shahida have in the pilot episode.
“Brother, I know you be on Facebook flexing and all that other stuff. So does she think, do you think or do you know or are you sure?” Shahida tells Bilal.
“What I’m saying is that women can be blinded by the lights, the glitz, and the glamour of what she thinks you have.”
Bilal assures Shahida that his fiancé is not like that. He tells Shahida that he hasn't showed her everything he has on purpose.

Bilal enacts his kind of messed up plan to test Shaeeda in 90 Day Fiancé Season 9 premiere
In a subsequent segment of 90 Day Fiancé Season 9, Bilal told the producers that he planned to execute a prank on Shaeeda with the help of his older sister Nefertari by bringing her to his childhood home and putting her to the test.
“If I did live here, will you still be with me? Will you still want to be with me?” was what Bilal hoped to learn from Shaeeda by inviting her to spend the night at his old house.
Fans of 90 Day Fiancé believe Bilal shouldn't have pulled such a joke on Shaeeda only to get a rise out of her. Bilal was chastised for his joke on Shaeeda's first day in America, according to a Reddit thread created by u/pythonprogram1.
“If he believes she’s a gold digger why would he be in a relationship with her in the first place?", questioned u/Responsible Bit 1389. Fans agree that he thinks too highly of himself.
90 Day Fiancé Season 9 star Shaeeda looks disappointed with the living conditions
In the opening episode, viewers don't get to see Shaeeda's full reaction to the place Bilal leads her to. The trailer for next week's episode, on the other hand, makes it apparent that Shaeeda is dissatisfied with their living circumstances.
Neither person appears to be delighted with the other's reaction, which will likely lead to lots of drama over the season.
