5 Things We Learned From the Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Trailer

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is just a few months away, and now that we've seen the first official trailer, it's time to look at all the things we've learned from it, and find out just what Dumbledore's secrets might be!

5. Serious Tone

Much like its 2018 predecessor, Crimes of Grindelwald, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore certainly looks a lot more serious in tone than the original 2016 movie, which, for the most part, was a pretty light and magical affair. And the fact that the first movie was so much more cheerful made Crimes of Grindelwald all the more jarring, as its tone is pretty bleak and dour to say the least, much like its visuals. But the new movie looks like it's pretty consistent with the second entry, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Let's just hope the magic adds a bit of color this time.

4. We’ll Get More Dumbledore

Jude Law's Dumbledore didn't feature all that much in Crimes of Grindelwald, despite him appearing in all the posters and trailers - and it was a shame because he certainly rocked the beard, the tunic, and that accent. This time, however, it looks like Dumbledore might be leading the action more than Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), especially if the new trailer is anything to go by. But with that said, trailers do often tell lies (and they mustn't tell lies!). Perhaps they ought to be taught a lesson by Dolores Umbridge!

3. It Will Tie into Harry Potter

Like many prequels, this spin-off series, which takes place decades before Harry Potter, is clearly building towards the timeline of The Boy Who Lived, which is obvious from the very first scene in the trailer, which shows an older Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), before jumping back to the Jude Law-version. We even got a younger Hogwarts in Crimes of Grindelwald (and with it, somehow, a younger Professor McGonagall). Exactly how this series will lead into the events of Harry Potter is unknown, but we bet our bottom Galleon that it will have something to do with Tom Riddle...

2. There Will Be a War

And in true prequel fashion, the Fantastic Beasts series is building towards an epic war between the Wizarding World and the Muggle world (although we've pretty much already been there and had the tee-shirt in the Harry Potter movies). While 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them didn't tease such an event, it did introduce us to Gellert Grindelwald, who is hellbent on pitting his kind against non-magic folk. But whether or not this war will happen in the upcoming movie or a future installment - as it's said there will be five Fantastic Beasts movies - remains to be seen.

1. We're Going Back to Hogwarts

We see quite a bit of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which does come as a pleasant surprise. We get some majestic overhead shots, and some interior ones, too, as the end of the trailers show Dumbledore and the gang entering what appears to be - at least based on what Newt says - the Room of Requirement, one of many local haunts in the Harry Potter series. Although it's not remotely clear what they might need from it. Either way, they definitely need something, hence the name!
