40-Year-Old Gamer Arrested for Threatening to Burn Down Square Enix Like Kyoto Animation

Not much time has passed since the tragic fire that destroyed Kyoto Animation's studio but it looks like some hot-headed people want to repeat a tragedy, this time to Square Enix. There was a 40-year-old man who threatened to burn down the gaming company after spending money on a game, which is both ridiculous and tasteless, so you can't blame the company for reporting the incident to the police.

According to FNN (translated by Siliconera), the gamer told Square Enix to give him back his money or he would do a repeat of the Kyoto Animation fire. When he was detained by the police and was asked about the threat, he claimed to have lost his temper at losing one of their games and sent the highly-offensive email. While tasteless jokes are a dime a dozen, this went way too far, especially since the Kyoto Animation fire wasn't that long ago.

This is the second major death threat that Square Enix has received. The first was when a 25-year-old man threatened the company's staff after claiming to have spent 200,000 yen on one of their gacha games and not get the item he desired. While the cycle of free-to-play games are pretty bad, threatening death to the company was a bit much.

Square Enix has several high-profile games coming out in 2020, like the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake and the Trials of Mana remake coming to Nintendo Switch, not to mention the big Final Fantasy VIII remaster coming out this year.
