1883 Season 2 is on the horizon!

Tanya Giles, ViacomCBS Streaming's chief programming officer, revealed on Tuesday that its popular Yellowstone spinoff, 1883, will return to Paramount+ for a second season. The renewal comes after 1883 broke the streaming service's global record for the most-watched title of all time.

Yellowstone Expansion in 1883 Season 2

It makes sense to begin with the announcement that more episodes of 1883 have been commissioned. Surprisingly, The Hollywood Reporter notes that this is not being regarded officially as 1883 Season 2; rather, it is possible that Paramount+ is simply adding to the Season 1 order.

Personally, we're curious if they'll call it "Part 2" even if it's still a part of the first season. This is something that networks/studios can use to avoid salary increases that occur with a second season.

Another Yellowstone Spinoff: 1932

In addition, Giles said that a new Yellowstone offshoot dubbed 1932 is in the works. A new generation of Dutton family members will be followed in the upcoming series.

"The incredible storytelling and stellar performances behind 1883 have fueled phenomenal new records for Paramount+," Giles said.

"Promoting the series through linear sampling on the Paramount Network during their latest record-breaking season of Yellowstone further enabled us to introduce Sheridan's loyal audience to this fantastic new series. We look forward to bringing fans even more of the Duttons' origin story."

It appears that a character or two from 1883 may still be alive at that time - for example, Elsa Dutton, if she survives what we're currently watching. (We're still unconvinced that she'll be killed soon.) Nothing has been confirmed, but it's worth considering!

1883 Season 2 and 1932 aren't the only ones contributing to the expansion of the Yellowstone universe. It was revealed in February 2021 that a new 6666 series will be coming to Paramount+.

Following the announcement of 6666, star Jefferson White, who played Jimmy Hurdstrom in the first hit, stated that the upcoming installment will be "gritty" and "not glamorous."

Without the success of Yellowstone, which launched on Paramount Network in 2018, the expanding franchise would not have been possible. The drama centers around the Dutton family's Montana ranch in this Kevin Costner-led series.

Yellowstone also received a fifth season renewal earlier this month.
