Funimation is currently one of the best streaming platforms to watch anime for a logical monthly price starting from $5.99. What distinguishes it from other platforms is its great number of SimulDubs of high quality, as well as the many choices regarding vintage anime. So, what are the best shows you can watch on Funimation? Below, we suggest some titles, both new and classic, in no particular order, for you to watch on Funimation this summer:

1) Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass hardly needs any introduction. It's no understatement to say that Lelouch is one of the favorite anime characters of all time, if not the favourite – he does have the most votes on MyAnimeList beating many, many other favorites.

The studio Sunrise anime is a mecha work, but still suitable for those who aren't fans of the genre, as it's primarily a drama about characters who feel real; they clash because they each have their own, selfish desires while simultaneously wanting to make the world better for their loved ones.

Even if the animation style puts you off at first, do give Code Geass a try if you have a Funimation account. The intelligent, tragic story of the exiled prince who turns against his own to create a kinder world for his sister might win you over.

2) Wonder Egg Priority

If you want your anime to give you brain food on top of entertaining you, this one is for you. Wonder Egg Priority is a unique twist on the magical girl genre equal to Puella Magi Madoka Magica – though the many triggering topics mean it's not for anyone.

With unique sensitivity for a paranormal horror anime, Wonder Egg Priority follows four girls each of whom have lost a friend to suicide, and now fight to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. The anime offers a sensitive but still very disturbing take on teenage mental health and it's bound to stay with you for a long time.

3) Assassination Classroom

If comedy is your genre of choice, you definitely need to check out Assassination Classroom. It's next to impossible to describe the premise with a straight face, but if you look past the weird description it's so worthwhile.

The anime follows an imaginary scenario in which an enigmatic tentacled creature cuts a large slice of the moon, rentering a permanent crescent. He intends to do the same to earth unless someone stops him.

The only ones who stand a chance are no other than his students; for reasons no one understands he has asked to teach a class of misfits with low grades, knowing full well that they'll do anything to assassinate him. Complicating matters is the fact that he's fast enough to go abroad during his break and be back in the next hour – he's also the best teacher they had.

4) Cowboy Bebop

Funimation doesn't only have new titles. 90s classics like Cowboy Bebop are also part of its library.

If you are interested in anime as a historical phenomenon, this can't be missing from your list; so iconic it is. It's difficult to classify the show, which focuses on a quirky group of bounty hunters in space. "Space opera" and "pulp fiction" are only some of the names that have occasionally been used – you should definitely give this classic a try and see how you would classify it.

5) Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is another shonen anime in no need of an introduction. Huge numbers of anime fans have followed humanity's struggles against the terrifying Titans that threaten the existence of mankind.

The show gets increasingly dark and heartbreaking as it goes on, with twists that will leave you holding your breath. Of course, there are viewers who aren't that keen on endless action sequences, but even so, it's worth checking out a few episodes if only to see what the fuss is about.

6) Demon Slayer

A must-watch for shonen fans, Demon Slayer is one of the most visually striking anime and one of the highest-grossing ones too. While we don't know the exact day of Season 2, rewatching the show on Funimation to refresh your memory before the Mugen Train film isn't a bad idea.

The story of Tanjiro and his cursed sister, Nezuko, has won the heart of many fans, and it might win you over as well!

7) Revolutionary Girl Utena

Another one that will satisfy your vintage cravings, Revolutionary Girl Utena is one of the most iconic anime of the 90s, and it still looks great, while its themes mark it as a story ahead of its time.

This rather surreal anime follows Utena, a girl who loses her parents and is comforted by a handsome prince. The experience is so profound that she decides to become a prince, and help others.

Years later, a teenage Utena who prefers a gender-fluid self-presentation is caught up in a supernatural dueling club where students fight for the hand of a girl named Anthy, also known as the Rose Bride. Utena and Anthy's fates become inextricably linked as Utena delves deeply into the dueling club's sinister secrets.

8) My Hero Academia

If the superhero genre is more of your cup of tea, My Hero Academia should be your go-to once you get a Funimation account. As the title indicates, the show is about an academy for superheroes.

In the setting of My Hero Academia, most of the human population is capable of developing superpowers of "Quirks." Such is the world of Izuku Midoriya, who lacks a Quirk but still resolves to be a Hero. When a Quirk is finally passed on to him, his dream might come true.

9) Fruits Basket (2019-21)

Based on a slice of life manga by Takaya Natsuki, Fruits Basket is a remake of a 2001 work that didn't do said manga justice. Season 3 managed to reach the Top 10 of MyAnimeList – no small feat – which is only a small indication of how heartfelt and beautiful this show is.

On the surface, Fruits Basket is about a girl who finds out her flatmates are afflicted by a curse that turns them into animals when hugged or unwell. But it's about so much more.

As we meet the anime's amazing cast of characters, we understand that first and foremost, Fruits Basket is an anime about life, mental health, trauma, and overcoming difficulties in realistic ways. But don't forget the tissues. You are bound to cry more than once, although there are fun, lighthearted moments too.

10) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Considered by many as the greatest anime show of all time, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood might take a while to get into, especially if you go into having watched its precedent, which had a few of the most moving episodes in anime tv.

However, once you've watched around 10 episodes you will understand why the show is so worth your time. The characters, both heroes and villains are absolutely fascinating, and their backstories will stay with you.

By the wholesome ending, everything comes together so beautifully I can't even begin to describe it. Definitely one of the most rewarding anime out there.
